Genre: New Adult Cozy Romantasy This is the third novel and I think 7th project (with more already scheduled) that I’ve hired Sarah to edit for me. I’ve had others look at samples of my work before, and no one has been as good at correcting my mistakes while keeping my voice. I think I’ve decided not to follow her suggestions once—as I’m in one story on one sentence she suggested rephrasing. Every other time the changes make sense and still sound like how I write. |
On top of that, the information she gives me on my comfort habits (which change from story to story) help me become a better writer. I’ve almost figured out em dashes and don’t avoid them like I used to. I read through all the feedback, and my favorite thing is she takes the time to show when you used something appropriately and when you did it in a way that didn’t work. I’m not saying I understand it all, kinda like when I start talking like a lawyer around non-lawyers. But I think it’s important to see how things are both right and wrong to help a person learn. My next favorite thing are the comments. Especially when they are where I think the reader is going to have one of those comment moments. It’s all these things that actually make having someone look at your work to find what’s “wrong” with it and not have you feel bad or defensive when you get the feedback back. If that makes sense.

Genre: Young Adult Dystopian Science Fiction and Fantasy Where do I start with Sarah? There are so many great things. First, as a person Sarah is fantastic and so kind and gentle with our beloved book babies. It's so hard and scary giving our projects over to someone to edit, but Sarah not only was kind about all her critiques, she really went above and beyond my expectations. I always felt my book was safe in her hands. I always got my questions answered promptly and never felt I was waiting around for an answer. Second, the edit itself was so detailed, so thorough, and so beyond my expectations. I was really blown away. Sarah did a copyedit and proofread on my manuscript, and went through it so many times, finding all my goofy mistakes and correcting everything, so it was all uniform and so very professional. I'm still blown away by her attention to detail, something I seriously strive for. I was also given a Style Sheet, and that document itself was amazing, too. It had every single character, all the magical and fantasy elements of my book, a scene by scene breakdown--it was just incredible. A document like that is so invaluable, especially for an author like myself who's doing a series. I would recommend Sarah 10 times over again, and had such a wonderful experience working with her and will be working with her again in the future. I'm so glad I found her when I did!
